Who needs "Big Brother" when we give away our privacy via the Internet?

The publication of 1984 caused people to be somewhat weary to governmental control and to the restriction of information. Since then, society has worried that George Orwell's "Big Brother" government style would become reality.

The truth is that the government doesn't have an extreme control over society nor over the media. We shouldn't worry about the government taking our information when we, the Internet user, expose our information every day  just by surfing the web to do daily chores.

Particular sites/groups on the Internet are using our personal data as a commodity, something to be bought or sold. They are able to do this because by accessing their sites they can gain certain information such as demographics and psychographics from the Internet user. This type of relationship is not symbiotic because they are the only "public" that benefits. Most people don't see this as a problem or even pay it much notice.

So, instead of worrying about the government taking or gaining your person information with the "big brother" mentality. Keep in mind that within a few clicks you're giving your personal information away, just by accessing a website especially the "trending" sites.

A video from the FTC explains how easy (your) personal information is disseminated via the Internet.
